GIVING

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

- Matthew 6:21

Why We Give?

Because God is generous to us, Christians are to be generous to one another and to the world. Like the Macedonians, we’re to give as an act of worship and with abundant joy—even in “severe affliction”, in “extreme poverty,” and even “beyond our means.” We do this because we trust our God to take care of us, and because “it is more blessed to give than to receive”(Acts 20:35). Our giving of our resources is really a by-product of our giving ourselves first to the Lord. Each time we give to the work of the church, we confess that we belong to God and all we have belongs to Him who gave His Son for our salvation (Rom. 8:32).
“We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.” (2 Cor. 8:1-5).
